Not long ago, a rare and unique portrait of clouds became viral on social media.

The portrait is known to be a snapshot of a woman named Amy Christie Hunter who was at Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia, United States.

Through the Insider page, Amy Christie Hunter tells her that she saw the unique cloud formation appear in the sky on Tuesday afternoon.

Amazed by the unique shape of the cloud, Hunter decided to take a picture and upload it to Facebook.

It didn't take long, Hunter's portrait became viral because of its wave-like shape.

Not only that, the wave portraits of clouds taken by Amy Christie Hunter are called similar to the background of "Starry Night" paintings by Vincent Van Gogh.

According to the meteorologist who saw Hunter's photo, the unique shape of the cloud was classified as "very rare and usually not that clear".

The cloud itself is called the Kelvin-Helmholtz cloud.

The Kelvin-Helmholtz cloud will be formed when there are differences in wind speed at the upper and lower levels of the atmosphere.

This process is similar to how waves form in the oceans, so it's not surprising that these clouds have the same shape.
